My apologies if the numbers given were unclear. The four in 52 - 4 = 48 is
for the 4 weekends that are conflict free for Crown Tournaments and
Coronations. That doesn't count any other possible conflict free weekend. 8
was the number of An Tirian Kingdom events total, but not necessarily the
conflict free weekends.
In 2006, both scheduled Crown Councils and Kingdom Bardic were on conflict
weekends. Kingdom A&S was conflict free, so you can move that 4 to a 5, if
you wish.
Last year, there were 4 events in An Tir scheduled on US Thanksgiving
weekend, one of which was in the US. There were 6 events scheduled on
Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, two of which were in Canada.
False Isle held a Winter Solstace on December 23rd and Lionsdale had a New
Years Masque on December 31st.

Quentin's makes several good points, but I would suggest that there are even
fewer weekends available than that.
First, 8 from 52 is 44, not 48 :>
Additionally, very few branches are going to hold events the weekend of
Thanksgiving(I count one weekend for this even though there are different
dates for the US and Canada), Christmas or New Years. By law we have to
have approval to hold an event opposite An Tir/West war. Large branches are
unlikely to go up against Pennsic or Estrella. Last time I did the math,
I came up with about 38 viable event weekends a year. This doesn't even
factor in the Principality events or what I would call Kingdom Level events
like Ursalmas, Egils, Sport of Kings or Autumn War.
During the camping season the numbers are much worse. From May 1st to
October 1st there are 21 or 22 weekends depending on the year. The Kingdom
claims 4, or now 5 with Bardic. Pennsic takes another 2. That leaves 14 or
15 weekends. There are 18 branches in Western Washington alone.
There are a variety of solutions that are being bandied about, but no one is
a silver bullet.
