   Well, you never know; they *might* want a consensus on the best kind of pizza.  However, mostly they poll to determine who will be added to their membership.  And that's all I can tell you about it; it isn't supposed to be only a popularity contest, but a consideration of whether the proposed new member shows the skills and characteristics of the members of (whichever) order.  Among those characteristics are supposed to be the PLQ's -- the Peer-Like Qualities.  That is, it is known that Norseguy Norseguyson is the finest zoodle-maker in the Kingdom; that he makes zoodles of great variety with heaps of impeccable documentation; and that he teaches zoodle-making to anyone who even *looks* interested; but if he drinks like a particularly annoying fish, beats his wife and kids, and makes all kinds of loud, snide remarks during Court, he ain't got the PLQ's and he probably won't become a Peer.  At least, that's my less-than-perfect understanding of it.
