The OED s.v. fortitude has the following definition:

  2. Moral strength or courage. Now only in passive sense: Unyielding 
courage in the endurance of pain or adversity. (One of the cardinal 
virtues.)

This exact spelling is dated to 1520.

Since fortitude is one of the cardinal virtues, I believe that this 
order name fits the meta-pattern "Orders named for virtues" from the 
August 2005 LoAR.  I found no conflicts.  This is a gorgeous name.
