I checked the specific type of cross for conflict. Any other type will
need another check, since... Well, keep reading.

She's right.  A tau cross for instance, is substantially (X.2. level)
different from other cross types.  A cross crosslet and a cross
bottony are heraldically identical, which means no difference at all,
but both are significantly different (one CD) from a cross of
Santiago, for instance.  It all boils down to the specific case.

And see what Baron David's said - there might be hope yet for your
cross, or you could simply go with a cross of Tolouse, which we know
for a fact is supposed to be voided.
