This is the motif that Stanton's client wants, or at least close
enough for blazon purposes:

My best guess is 'a roundel within and conjoined to eight increscents
in annulo each indented on the outer edge'.
Tincture doesn't matter yet, I used black because it contrasted
nicely. I also put too many bites out of the outside of the
increscents and I know they're actually engrailed, too. Round bites
were easy to do quickly, and it's a matter of having a complex line
more than which one at this early stage of the game.
I chose the term increscents because the one on top is an increscent.
If the motif can be blazoned reproducably, Laurel might accept it for
heraldic purposes. That's where we are right now. Crescents with a
complex treatment on one edge have been registered in the distant
past, but there has been no ruling banning their registration since,
so I think they'd still be acceptable. It's just a matter of getting
this sunlike charge (and I expect it to ram solidly into suns under
X.5. so will conflict check against same if we can figure out a
blazon) into acceptable style parameters.
