Ignoring the pictorial aspect for the time being,
could  the field (any field, actually) be "Per fess
piley from the line of division gules and argent and
argent"?  Basicly, white piles on red for the top and
a white bottom.  

Of course, putting a black ship floating on the line
of division makes it into a picture again, besides
obliterating the conjuction of the piles.
