"Argent, issuant from dexter chief a leopard's head and dexter foreleg
sable, armed and orbed argent, on a sinister quarter gules a phoenix
enflamed Or.

First of all, this is an augmentation of the Ruger trademark. You cannot
have charged cantons or quarters, either dexter or sinister, with straight
lines of division."

It appears this may have been the first word on the subject in the SCA, so
that from the start the quarter was not distinguished from the canton with
regard to the reservation. Despite its antiquity, I am not aware of it
having been reversed except to the extent of allowing charged cantons as
augmentations.
