I was talking to a former shire member at 12th Night. He had been
talking to someone (Juliana?) at the consult table about a device that
might work for his Japanese persona. He had come up with a tentative
design and needed some advice regarding tinctures, etc.
I'm not sure if this blazon is totally correct so I will describe it in
English as well.
Sable, a katana fesswise argent and overall an open scroll palewise Or.
Sable field.
A katana (japanese sword) fesswise, hilt to dexter, arc upwards, argent.
On top of the sword, forming a + is an open scroll palewise Or. The way
he drew the scroll was a rectangle straight up and down with the scroll
knobs on either side of the top and bottom (kind of like a very fat I).
I don't know if this is an acceptable way to draw a scroll.
I couldn't find any conflicts but there was a lot to check and I'd
really appreciate it if someone could take another look. I checked all
'Book and Scroll' as well as all single 'Sword' and multiple swords that
were argent or multicolored.
The closest I found were these which I think are all clear.
This is the one I'm most concerned about:
Angharad Rhondda of Glamorgan:
Sable, a closed book palewise Or.
- There is one CD for adding the sword (X.4.b). I can't determine for
sure if there is a CD between a closed book and a scroll. They are
grouped together in the Ordinary but I would think there would be enough
difference visually. I couldn't find a precedent on it.
Cerridwyn Eurgledde ferch Owain ap Bychan ap Gruffudd:
Sable, in chief an open book Or overall a sword proper.
- There would be a CD for change in position (X.4.g).
- There would be a CD for changing the sword from palewise (default) to
fesswise (X.4.h).
- I would think there would be a CD for between an open book and a
scroll but there's already the needed two.
An Tir, Kingdom of:
Sable, a scroll unrolled bendwise argent, overall a sword Or. for Lists
Office
- One CD for changing the tincture of the scroll (X.4.d)
- One CD for changing the tincture of the sword. (X.4.d)
- One CD for changing sword posture. (X.4.h)
Astrach yo Zhar-Ptitsa:
Azure, a sword fess-wise surmounted by a harp argent.
- One CD for changing the field. (X.4.a)
- One CD for changing from harp to scroll. (X.4.c)
Mederic de Chastelerault:
Azure, in cross a sword fesswise reversed proper and a sickle inverted
argent.
- One CD for changing the field. (X.4.a)
- One CD for changing from harp to scroll. (X.4.e)
- I *think* my client sword is not reversed so there may be a third CD
there. (X.4.h)
Elizabetha Venusta:
Sable, a heart Or, and in chief a sword fesswise reversed argent.
- CD for changing from heart to scroll. (X.4.e)
- CD for position of the sword (X.4.g)
- probably a CD for the sword not being reversed. (X.4.h)
Jason Griffiths of Shadowhyrst:
Sable, a male griffin couchant Or upon a sword fesswise proper.
- CD for changing from griffin to scroll. (X.4.e)
- this sounds like the griffin is above the sword so there would be a CD
for relative position of the two(X.4.c? X.4.g?)
Edward the Merchant:
Sable, a sword fesswise proper and in chief a bezant.
- CD for changing from bezant to scroll. (X.4.e)
- CD for changing the position of the bezant (X.4.g)
