[antir-heralds] memorials using devices

Greetings all,
 
Recent events have set me to wondering two things.  What are the precedents for using a person's device in a "memorial" to them?  Would someone (longtime friend, former student, etc.) be permitted to wear a deceased person's device in some adapted form on something, such as a belt favor?  (Given that remaining family have giving permission, of course.)
 
Also, how do you find out if a person had/has registered arms?
