This is why I have a friend who has a 13 letter Irish last name starting
with the letter M and containing many of the combinations you mention. We
call her Ceara Mumblesomething and her name has made many a voice herald
cringe.

Okay, I give up. Who was the anal-retentive Victorian linguist who
decided that "n" was to be pronounced "v" (along with several other non-v
consonants), and "gh" was to be pronounced "n" -- and WHY??
