Greetings!

I am seeking Ithra instructors for a few classes to be held at Aquaterra,
April 5-6. Most of the openings are on Sunday (only one on Saturday), so if
you're available and have a skill or knowledge you'd like to share, please
contact me!

In particular, I'm looking for someone to teach Marshalling & Fighting
Appreciation. This is NOT a marshalling class, and it's NOT a fighting
class. Students should not be expected to wear armor or fight. This is, in
some respects, a How to be a Good Spectator class.

The class is defined as: An opportunity for non-fighters and fighters alike
to appreciate combat on the tourney and war field. This class also includes
a section on what marshals do and the role of the marshal in SCA combat
activities.

General tips: This is not a technical class on how to marshal, nor should
the instructor intend to turn out people who could be qualified for the
Marshalate. The instructor should have been in the SCA for at least three
years. He or she should have some experience as a warranted marshal or
fighter. The instructor will probably receive questions about chivalry on
the field and on some of the differences of opinion that exist concerning
the role of marshals, so should be prepared to answer these.

The instructor should cover: an historical overview of how fighting has
changed in the SCA, armor requirements, the role of tourney combat in the
SCA, an explanation of what occurs when two fighters meet upon the field,
and what all the support people involved in combat activities do. Also
discussed should be protocol for the observer, the role of the marshal,
chivalry on the field, the purpose of the marshaling staff and how marshals
interact with fighters in the course of baffle, and ways in which war combat
is different from tourney combat. The instructor may also cover war archery,
fencing, and other types of SCA combat.

At the end of the class, the students should know what a marshal does, what
fighters do while fighting, and protocols for observing SCA combat.

This is clearly something that any number of fighters, marshals and
experienced SCA folk can do. If this sounds interesting to you, please
contact me ASAP!! klostheller at verizon.net

Thank you!
